ADHD-Friendly Recipe: Sweet Potato & Black Bean Hash

If you’re craving something hearty but still brain-friendly, this hash is where it’s at. Sweet potatoes are rich in complex carbs and vitamin B6, which helps make dopamine—your attention-boosting buddy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium sweet potato, diced

  • ½ cup black beans, rinsed

  • ¼ cup diced red onion

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional: 1 fried egg on top

Directions:

Sauté sweet potatoes in olive oil over medium heat until soft (about 10 minutes). Add onions and black beans, season with paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for 3–5 more minutes. Serve warm, egg on top if you’re feeling fancy.

Random Plant Fact: Turmeric – Nature’s Anti-Inflammatory

Turmeric, especially its active compound curcumin, is a natural anti-inflammatory that can support brain health. It’s been linked to improved mood and cognitive function, and some studies even suggest it could help reduce ADHD symptoms by protecting neurons from oxidative stress. Add it to tea, smoothies, or sprinkle on roasted veggies.

California Fact: California Has the World’s Tallest Tree

Meet Hyperion, a coast redwood towering at over 379 feet tall, hidden deep in a Northern California forest. Its exact location is kept secret to protect it from damage, but just knowing it exists makes California feel a little more magical.

Neuroscience Nugget: The Power of Routine

Brains love patterns. When you establish consistent routines, especially with sleep and nutrition, you create a neurological rhythm that reduces stress and improves focus. For people with ADHD, routine isn’t boring—it’s brain fuel.

Tea Recommendation: Golden Milk (Turmeric Latte) One of favorites.

Speaking of turmeric, golden milk is a warm, comforting drink made with non-dairy milk, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and a touch of black pepper (to boost curcumin absorption). Cozy, calming, and mentally grounding.
I love getting these dirty at Petaluma Coffee & Tea

Los Angeles Fun Fact: L.A. Has More Museums Than Any U.S. City

Surprised? It’s true! With over 100 museums, from the Getty to the Museum of Neon Art, L.A. is a playground for curious minds and creatives alike.

The Getty was my first Museum. I also love the Broad, MoMA, LACMA and Norton Simon Museums.

Cryptid Corner: The Melon Heads (Michigan)

The Melon Heads are said to be small humanoid creatures with oversized, misshapen heads who lurk in the woods of Michigan (and also Ohio and Connecticut). Legend has it they escaped from an asylum or were part of a government experiment gone wrong. While many believe it’s just urban myth, eerie sightings and abandoned buildings keep the stories alive. Whether truth or tale, they’ve been part of Midwest folklore for decades.

Good morning, good afternoon and good night sincerely from your friend Me aka Jeffery
