Jeffery Page brings the Tsunami Wave into his visual universe the same way he brings everything in — through the lens of a Los Angeles artist who grew up between the streets and the shore and understands that surf culture and underground culture have always occupied the same geography, the same attitude, and the same refusal to be told what they’re supposed to be.
The wave in question is the big one. The one Katsushika Hokusai painted in 1831 and that has appeared in every version of ocean mythology since — including Jeffery’s own Crimewave Target piece in the Consume collection. The Tsunami Wave is the great wave reimagined for a crew that rides it underground.
