Journal Notes #17 – Liu Xiaodong, John MacIntyre and the Fiji Mermaid
Journal Notes #17 – Liu Xiaodong painted a good friend John MacIntyre @Lisson Gallery, Fiji Mermaid & The Flatwoods Monster
Hello my friends, Here is another selection of my Journal notes. As I am waiting for my coffee to brew I am looking over the “HOST” gallery book of Liu Xiaodong that was given to me by the star of the Show my friend John. Xiaodong is an amazing painter from China who took a trip to Detroit and ending up a painting a show around the personality and talents of my good friend, amazing artist, former business partner and musician a true renaissance man John MacIntyre at the Lisson Gallery in Los Angeles, CA. It is a very cool collection of paintings that I truly think are awesome juxtapositions that seem surreal yet they are all truly painted from real life. A great collection and was honored to be invited to the opening and seeing friends. Three of my favorite paintings on display were “Painter John”, “John and his Tattoos” and “John and His Armor”. Truly great series. Check them all out.

California Fact: California Is the Only U.S. State That’s Hosted the Olympics Twice. I wonder if the third time is a CHARM.
L.A. hosted in 1932 and 1984—and it’s set to do it again in 2028. The city is known for turning the event into a cultural showcase. As I am living in Belmont Shore of Long Beach, CA and I do remember the 1984 Olympics. I am very interested to see how the build destroy and leave the city of Los Angeles in the aftermath. As I love my city I can not seem to warn my neighbors. Being super ADHD, an artist and a Libra it seems I see both sides to the coin quite a bit only guided by right or wrong. Which unfortunately I feel the way Olympics leave places they build up and abandon. Which is why I find the Olympics not as GOLD for the community hosting gets left with rubble in the long run as a vacuum creates widespread crime and poverty. As the promise of GOLD will always attract the hopeful, desperate and parasites.
Neuroscience Nugget: Brain Plasticity Never Stops
Even ADHD brains can build stronger connections with time and effort. Through repetition, feedback, and emotional engagement, the brain rewires itself well into adulthood. The only difference is that the older you get the more misinformation, distractions and old ways have to be reprogrammed into thinking must be changed by you the observer of the brain.

Tea Recommendation: Passionflower Chamomile Tea
This evening-friendly herbal blend helps wind down the brain, especially for ADHD minds that struggle with racing thoughts at night. Chamoliile Tea is part of a very regular night ritual. I also enjoy Lavender and/or honey with my chamomile. I recommend 30 minutes before you want crash out.
Los Angeles Fun Fact: The L.A. River Has Been in More Movies Than Some Actors
From Grease to Terminator 2, the dry riverbed has served as a gritty backdrop for Hollywood’s most famous chase scenes. It also the birthplace to SABER of Los Angeles Graffiti fame as he hit up one of the largest pieces to date for the time. I definitely spent sometime running along the LA River which at one time was lifeline to California Natives. One of my favorite movies featuring the LA River is the Cult Classic REPO MAN staring Harry Dean Stanton a fellow friend from Hollywood and Emilio Estevez. I recommend watching it. It was always rotated in and out of my employees picks shelf as I was an Assistant Manager the now defunct home video chain BlockBuster Video. Sidenote: No joke I loved working there as I hired friends and I’ve always been a fan of movies. I state very regularly that if there was a video store around me I’d love to work one day a week there. I find the cinematic story telling as one of my favorites of the art. Regardless of who you are and where you are at, I recommend watching, reading and enjoying the stories of the place you call home. I will always enjoy movies of Los Angeles as it is my home. Well technically CALIFORNIA.
Cryptid Corner: The Flatwoods Monster (West Virginia)
Dyna
In 1952, witnesses described a tall figure with glowing red eyes, a spade-shaped head, and mechanical features. Some say it was an alien; others believe it was a local barn owl seen under bizarre conditions. Either way, the legend lives on. Even if this one to me seems as a sick Barn owl I still love the idea, concept and imagination of our primitive fear of the unknown and the label them monsters, aliens or my favorite the Cryptids. Either way I believe in the unknown and still elusive creatures that exist on this beautiful planet.
Good morning, good afternoon and good night sincerely from your friend Me aka Jeffery
